Leon Edwards vs Gunnar Nelson Odds Preview – March 17 2019
The Ultimate Fighting Championship continues to grow with each and every passing day, and with that comes a whole lot of great fights. Over the course of the next few months we’re going to be treated to a series of fantastic fight cards, with one of the stand out examples being the UFC London card on March 17th.
UFC events have come and gone in the English capital for well over a decade now, but you could argue that this is the best card they’ve ever put on. It’s going to be a stacked show from top to bottom, with one of the most intriguing fights, in our mind, being Leon Edwards vs Gunnar Nelson.
Edwards is coming off the back of a huge win over Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone, and now, he’s aiming to continue his path towards welterweight greatness with his end goal, it seems, being to become the best UFC fighter on the planet. He’s probably still got a ways to go, but an emphatic win in London could do wonders for his career trajectory.
Gunnar Nelson, on the other hand, is on his way back up the rankings following his brutal triumph over Alex Oliveira at UFC 231. The submission machine feels like he’s got his mojo back after more than a year outside of the cage, and there’s a good chance that a few more stoppage wins could put him on the verge of a title shot.
Whatever happens it certainly seems like we’re in store for a pretty fun night of action, as is usually the case with UFC events, with the following UFC betting odds summarising who is considered to be the favourite between these two warriors.
If we’re talking about the bookmaker that has the strongest belief in Leon Edwards’ chances of winning in London, then Betway are at the top of the list. They have Leon down as a 4/7 favourite to pick up the win over Gunnar, who is currently a 13/10 underdog. Those are pretty reasonable odds by all accounts, but it’s interesting to note that things get a bit more favourable for the Iceland native from here.
Royal Panda offers up odds of 16/25 for Edwards to win this fight, with Nelson priced at the utterly wacky 111/100. It seems as if bookmakers are more than willing to open their mind up to the possibility of a sneaky sub from Nelson, who is often considered to be the best UFC fighter in the realms of the submission world. That may be an overstatement, but the point stands.
Fun88 seem to be more inclined to throw the cat amongst the pigeons in the UFC betting world, with Edwards just a 2/3 favourite and Nelson a 21/20. Of course, it makes a lot of sense to have Leon as the favourite, but the questions regarding his ability to finish off top contenders still lingers.
Are you a Leon Edwards fan (as well as a fan of UFC events in general) and want the best odds possible for his fight? If the answer is yes, then you should probably head on over to Bet365. He’s favoured at 7/10 with Nelson remaining the underdog, although 6/5 indicates that we could be in for a bit of a back and forth war.
Whatever happens, let’s just hope and pray this fight holds firm until we get to March 17th – because there’s always the threat of either Darren Till or Jorge Masvidal pulling out, which would almost certainly see Edwards get the call to fill in for the main event. In that instance, Nelson would be left high and dry once again.
