Tyson Fury WWE: Betting and Odds Preview – October 31, 2019

wweIf ever a British boxer was to provide a perfect fit for the showbiz world of WWE, that man would be Tyson Fury. The Gipsy King is pure box office and, having returned to the ring following a spell out of the sport, Fury looks better than ever.

In fact, many boxing fans are surprised that he’s taken this diversion into wrestling. At 31 years of age, Tyson Fury looks primed for an assault on the world titles that he once owned so is this a wise move? That question is open for debate but what we do know is that WWE fans are in for a treat when the Englishman takes on Braun Strowman as part of the Crown Jewel night on October 31.

As you would expect, there is a busy set of betting markets for this contest but let’s take a look at the background to the match up before deciding on a winner.

Event Date: October 31, 2019

Backstory

For many casual boxing fans, Tyson Fury’s entry into WWE appears to have come from nowhere but it seems that the organisers may have had their eye on this scenario for some time. Fight fans first became aware of these developments when Fury appeared in a side story to WWE Smackdown on October 4, 2019.

Fury stared menacingly at Braun Strowman who responded by throwing one of his opponents in the Englishman’s general direction. A tense stand off ensued and the next step saw Fury being granted an ‘Open Mic’ at WWE Raw on October 11. It was at this point that the organisation confirmed that the two men would do battle as part of WWE Crown Jewel in Saudi Arabia on October 31st. That’s the background but what do the sportsbooks make of this unusual match up?

He may be making his debut in pro wrestling but Tyson Fury is a clear favourite to win the Crown Jewel match. Currently, you can pick up the Englishman at odds of 1/5 with Betway and William Hill while victory for Braun Strowman comes in at a top price of 7/2 with Unibet.

Those figures certainly point to a ringing endorsement for the British boxer but what does the tale of the tape tell us? Fury obviously has that incredible record in the conventional boxing ring and a host of world heavyweight titles to his name. The tale of the tape shows that he comes in at 6 foot 9 inches with reach of 85 inches and in 30 professional fights, he’s yet to be defeated.

Strowman is considerably older at 36 but while he has yet to really set the WWE world on fire, he does possess one quality over Tyson Fury – experience. Will his established career in wrestling be enough to overcome a first timer? There will be some interest in that 7/2 price but will Strowman have enough to deliver a profit?

Other Betting Options

The Strowman v Fury match up provides just part of a big night of wrestling. The Crown Jewel has a number of other, exciting contests on the card including Brock Lesnar vs Cain Velasquez and Seth Rollins against The Fiend Bray Wyatt.

The penultimate show features a 20 man Battle Royal and whoever emerges triumphant from that scrap will have the honour of taking on AJ Styles for the WWE United States Championship.

Markets are open for most of those battles but the options are restricted to the straight moneyline result. Potentially we may see a prop bet drop in as the battle draws closer but for now, we’ll just focus on the winner of Tyson Fury versus Braun Strowman.

Verdict

Many serious punters are wary of getting involved with WWE. It’s more about entertainment than sport in its truest sense but there is some potential with this Fury v Strowman fight. The appearance of Tyson Fury is a big boost for the organisers and to have attracted the attention of one of boxing’s biggest fighters can only serve to increase their ratings.

The storyline could upset this market but we think that destiny may have already decided that Tyson Fury is the winner.

Odds of 1/5 are, admittedly, almost prohibitively short so you should only really get involved if you like your profits to be small ones. Alternatively, check to see if there are any price boosts or enhanced odds deals from around the sportsbooks.

The future of this venture is yet to be confirmed but it will be fascinating to see just how far Tyson Fury can take this. Moving forward, new battles may provide some better value but for now, the Gipsy King should kick off his WWE career in some style.
